Throwing Mud Floor
The traditional method in Bunkpurugu, Ghana to make mud floors in their houses. The women use a wooden paddle called a Sanpan (sp?) to make the floor into a clay-like surface. The Bimoba women are singing a Dagomba song that translates: The man of the house says that he is going to the farm, but he only goes out to drink. The women stay home to take care of the house (which means feeding the children, cleaning, laundry, fetching water and MANY other chores). Then the man comes back and complains that she is lazy.
My great comedian friend Elijah (he's from Bunkpurugu) jumps in front of the camera for a moment to help them out. I shout Niipok (thankyou) to these wonderful women for displaying this part of life for me. To do this demonstration, I bought them a few gallons of damung also called pito.
