Foundation: Compacting sand and clay under our slab on grade

Here is how we compacted the fill and sand inside the foundation walls. We backfilled some clay before adding sand. The video shows clearly how to tell clay from soil. Organic matter is not allowed inside the foundation. Check with yoru building inspector.

The teeter-totter we built allowed us to easily "walk" the compactor from one foundation cavity into another. This was better and quicker than lifting and was necessary as we had to compact all cavities between slinger loads. The truck was on a 45 minute turn around schedule so it worked out fine.

The slinger was fantastic and also saved a lot of work. Would recommend it for receiving this much sand. The rented compactor was easy to operate as you can see. The P-2000 insulation was extra protection to keep the frost out of the ground at the perimeter.
